This defines the estimated probability that the plant occurs in shade. Negative signs (-) indicating a tendency to shade and positive signs (+) indicating a tendency to sun.
Please note that this coefficient was not a part of the Michigan Floristic Quality Assessment data, but was added by me. Also note that only some of the species have been assigned a shade coefficient and so searches by S coefficient do not reflect the full diversity of Michigan species.
