Shade Coefficient (S)

This defines the estimated probability that the plant occurs in shade. Negative signs (-) indicating a tendency to shade and positive signs (+) indicating a tendency to sun.

Please note that this shade coefficient was created by Native Plant Nursery and was not a part of the Michigan Floristic Quality Assessment data. Also note that some of the species have been assigned a shade coefficient and some have not; and so, searches by S coefficient do not reflect the full diversity of all Michigan species that may be appropriate.
